Australia, Iran highlight importance of expanding cooperation in non-sanctioned fields
(MENAFN) Australia and Iran have highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in non-sanctioned fields during a recent meeting at the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA). The discussions focused on ways to enhance business relations and facilitate the issuance of business visas, with recommendations from both ICCIMA and the Iran-Australia Joint Chamber of Commerce playing a crucial role.
Nilofar Asadi, the director of the Asia and Pacific Office within ICCIMA’s International Department, emphasized the need to boost collaboration in non-sanctioned areas, aiming to introduce more opportunities for entrepreneurs from both nations. She identified key sectors for potential cooperation, including industry, mining, agriculture, food production, water management, and water productivity.
Hamidreza Manaqebi, the chairman of the Iran-Australia Joint Chamber of Commerce, underscored Iran's significant economic standing as the second-largest economy in the West Asia region. He pointed out that while Iran is well-known for its oil and gas production, it also possesses strengths in mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and petrochemicals. Manaqebi highlighted that, with the lifting of sanctions, there would be attractive opportunities for Australian companies in exploration, production, and processing within Iran's oil and gas sectors.
Furthermore, he mentioned agriculture and water management as promising areas for joint investment, noting Iran's rich mineral resources and potential for collaboration in mining exploration, extraction, and processing. Beyond these sectors, Manaqebi listed information technology, education, software development, health care, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, tourism, and construction as additional fields ripe for partnership between the two countries. The meeting set a constructive tone for future engagements aimed at fostering bilateral trade and investment.
