Global presidents denounce attempted assassination of Donald Trump
(MENAFN) Global presidents have condemned the apparent assassination attempt against former US President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who had recently met with Trump, expressed his solidarity on X, stating, "My thoughts and prayers are with President @realDonaldTrump in these dark hours."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed shock on social media, stating that he and his wife, Sara, are "praying for his safety and speedy recovery" following the attack.
The shooting, which resulted in the death of one spectator and left two others critically injured, is being investigated as a possible assassination attempt, with the shooter also killed during the incident.
Newly-elected British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, saying he was "appalled" by the events at the rally and sending his best wishes to Trump and his family. "Political violence in any form has no place in our societies, and my thoughts are with all the victims of this attack," Starmer added.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that "political violence is never acceptable," and extending his thoughts to Trump, those present at the rally, and all Americans.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called for a reduction in hatred during the American elections, wishing Trump a speedy recovery and hoping for a campaign characterized by dialogue and responsibility rather than violence.
Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, condemned the attack as well, noting, "Once again, we are witnessing unacceptable acts of violence against political representatives."
Argentinian President Javier Milei placed blame on the "international left" for the shooting, expressing hopes for Trump's quick recovery and for the upcoming US elections to be conducted "fairly, peacefully, and democratically."
