On 5Th Muharram, Alam Procession Carried Out In Srinagar


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- The 5th Muharram Alam Shareef processions were carried out with solemnity and fervor in various parts of Kashmir Valley. The faithful gathered to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in the plains of Karbala.

According to details, processions commenced at various places including Fateh Kadal, Hazratbal and Lal Bazar with mourners marching through the streets.

The atmosphere was one of deep reverence as participants carried Alams (Replica of flag carried by Hazrat Abbas, the standard bearer of Imam Hussain's caravan in Karbala). The processions made their way through the designated routes, concluding at central points where religious scholars delivered sermons on the significance of Muharram.

The 5th of Muharram is a key day in the mourning period as processions commence
to remember the sacrifices made in Karbala.

“These processions demonstrate willingness
of participants to march on the call of Imam Hussain for upholding values of sacrifice, justice, and standing up against tyranny”, said Syed Tariq Ahmad one of the organisers of today's procession.

Bilal Ahmed, a participant from Habba Kadal said that every year, they come together to honor the legacy of Imam Hussain and reflect on the lessons of Karbala.

Another local, Tahir Ali, shared, Muharram brings the community together. Despite the challenges we face, this is a time when we all stand united in our grief and our resolve to uphold the principles of our faith.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is a period of mourning for Shia Muslims worldwide. The first ten days are particularly significant, culminating in the day of Ashura, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh), in the year 680 AD.
