Iran, Qatar ink 2 agreements to strengthen legal, judicial collaboration

(MENAFN) Iran and Qatar have solidified their legal and judicial collaboration through the signing of two significant agreements in the Qatari capital of Doha. According to reports from a news agency, Qatar's Attorney General Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi and an Iranian delegation led by Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei inked these agreements.

The first agreement, encompassing 14 articles, focuses on enhancing cooperation in criminal matters between the two nations. It pledges comprehensive legal and judicial assistance, including the exchange of data on final rulings against nationals of each country upon request. Both sides committed to handling bilateral requests for legal assistance and executing letters rogatory related to criminal cases.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) comprising 11 clauses was signed to foster broader judicial cooperation. This MoU aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, discussions on mutual judicial and legal concerns, and collaboration in organizing educational programs for judges and justice officials.

During discussions with Qatar's Attorney General, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei emphasized the importance of implementing these agreements effectively. He advocated for further joint efforts in enhancing legal assistance mechanisms and the extradition of convicts between Iran and Qatar.

These agreements mark a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations between Iran and Qatar in the realm of legal and judicial affairs. They underscore a mutual commitment to fostering closer ties and facilitating cooperation in tackling shared challenges in criminal justice and legal frameworks. As both countries move forward with these arrangements, they aim to build a robust framework that supports effective legal assistance and collaboration in criminal matters to ensure justice and security for their citizens.
