Experts claim election results wont change India`s foreign policy

(MENAFN) As votes from India's recent general election were being tallied, senior diplomats emphasized that the country's foreign policy trajectory is expected to remain consistent regardless of the electoral outcome. According to Manju Seth, a former ambassador, and consul general of India, New Delhi will continue to uphold its principles of "strategic autonomy" and pursue a "multilateral" approach in its international engagements. Seth also underscored India's persistent advocacy for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), reflecting the nation's long-standing diplomatic objectives.

Ambassador Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty, former Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the stability inherent in India's foreign policy framework. Chakravarty noted that while there may be minor adjustments and refinements, the fundamental principles guiding India's foreign relations are rooted in national interest and are unlikely to undergo significant shifts.

The closely watched Indian election has drawn attention globally, particularly concerning the perceived assertiveness of India's foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration. Analysts have observed India's adept balancing act in its diplomatic engagements, maintaining relations with both Moscow and Western partners amid geopolitical tensions.

In light of the Ukraine conflict, India's stance on the global stage has garnered scrutiny, with the country opting to refrain from condemning Russia while emphasizing the importance of peaceful dialogue and diplomacy in resolving the crisis. Despite pressure from Western powers, India has sustained its defense and commercial ties with Russia, exemplifying its commitment to maintaining strategic partnerships while navigating complex geopolitical dynamics.

The resilience and continuity of India's foreign policy approach underscore the nation's commitment to safeguarding its national interests while contributing to global peace and stability. As the electoral process unfolds, observers anticipate that India's foreign policy priorities will remain anchored in principles of sovereignty, non-alignment, and proactive engagement on the world stage.
