PKK/YPG Supporters Stage Protest in Sweden Targeting Turkish President, Sweden's NATO Aspirations

(MENAFN) PKK/YPG sympathizers in Sweden organized a demonstration targeting Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Sweden's NATO membership aspirations. The protest took place at Norra Bantorget Square in Stockholm, where supporters of the terrorist group gathered to voice their opposition to a new anti-terrorism law that went into effect on June 1.

The demonstrators accused the Swedish parliament of capitulating to President Erdogan and claimed that the legislation was specifically designed to target him. They called for the government to overturn the law and resign.

During the protest, the PKK/YPG sympathizers carried cloth pieces symbolizing the terrorist group and displayed posters featuring Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the organization. Chanting slogans against Erdogan, the demonstrators expressed their grievances for several hours. Under police escort, the group marched for approximately three-and-a-half hours until they reached the Swedish parliament.

Approximately 1,000 individuals participated in the demonstration, and the police temporarily closed roads along the march route to ensure a smooth procession. Meanwhile, Türkiye, which had approved Finland's NATO membership application, is still waiting for Sweden to honor a trilateral memorandum signed in Madrid last June. The memorandum aims to address Ankara's security concerns.
