Iranian Greco-Roman Wrestlers Shine with Gold Medals Ahead of World Championships

(MENAFN) Iran's top Greco-Roman wrestlers, Mohammadhadi Saravi and Amin Mirzazadeh, made an impressive start to their preparations for the upcoming World Championships by securing gold medals in their respective weight classes. The remarkable performances of these two athletes took place at the Kaba Uulu Kozhomkul & Raatbek Sanatbaev Ranking Series event in Bishkek on Thursday.

Mohammadhadi Saravi, who had not competed since winning a bronze medal at the World Championships in September 2022, marked his return to the wrestling mat with sheer dominance. In the 97kg weight category, Saravi exhibited his exceptional skills and overwhelmed his opponents, securing a resounding 25-2 victory on his way to the gold medal. Notably, his most significant triumph came in the semifinals against fellow Iranian wrestler Mehdi Bali, effectively solidifying Saravi's position as the frontrunner to represent Iran at the World Championships in Belgrade later this year. Bali's 7-1 defeat to Saravi dashed his hopes of earning a place on the national team.

In the final, Saravi faced Yiming LI from China and emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. Saravi's adept execution of a turn from the pat terre position proved decisive, as his opponent failed to replicate the feat. This crucial win sealed the gold medal for Saravi, further cementing his reputation as one of Iran's most promising Greco-Roman wrestlers.

Amin Mirzazadeh, a world silver medalist, also showcased his exceptional talent at the Kaba Uulu Kozhomkul & Raatbek Sanatbaev Ranking Series event. Competing in the 130kg weight category, Mirzazadeh delivered two impressive victories that will undoubtedly boost his confidence ahead of the World Championships. His first triumph came against Osman Yildirim from Turkey, avenging a previous defeat he suffered at the hands of Yildirim in Almaty. Mirzazadeh then went on to defeat Oscar Pino from Cuba, a 2019 world silver medalist and Pan-American champion, solidifying his credentials as a formidable contender in his weight class.

The outstanding performances of Saravi and Mirzazadeh not only demonstrate their individual skills and determination but also reflect the strength and depth of Iran's Greco-Roman wrestling program. As these athletes continue their preparations for the highly anticipated World Championships, the Iranian wrestling community and fans eagerly await their participation and expect them to make a significant impact on the global stage.
