Parliamentarians From NATO Countries Adopt Statement On Support For Ukraine's Membership

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The heads of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of the NATO member countries have adopted a statement on support for Ukraine's membership in NATO.

Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said this in a post on his facebook page, according to Ukrinform.

"The heads of the foreign affairs committees of the parliaments of the NATO member countries call on the Alliance and the heads of state and government to hold the Vilnius NATO summit in order to determine the path of Ukraine's accession to NATO and to provide clear and strong security guarantees for Ukraine," the speaker said.

According to him, the statement says that Ukraine's membership in NATO will strengthen stable peace in Europe and demonstrate that Russia does not have the right to veto the expansion of the Alliance, that Ukraine is free to choose which security and defense organizations to join.

In addition, the statement adds that the Euro-Atlantic values that unite NATO member states are primarily upheld and defended by the Ukrainian people, Ukraine is currently the guarantor of security, and Ukraine's membership in NATO will significantly strengthen the Alliance.

"We are sure that Ukraine's membership in NATO would greatly contribute to the security of the Alliance," Stefanchuk said, citing the statement.

Stefanchuk arrived on a working visit to the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, to participate in a summit of the heads of parliaments of NATO member states.
