Iran's Ports, Maritime Organization Focuses on Developing Marine Transportation Fleet

(MENAFN) During a live TV program, Ali-Akbar Safaei, the head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO), highlighted the organization's commitment to the development of the country's marine transportation fleet. Safaei emphasized that enhancing the capabilities and modernization of Iran's maritime fleet, particularly in the northern regions, is a key priority for the PMO.

Iran heavily relies on sea transportation for its trade activities, with more than 90 percent of its trade conducted via maritime routes. Recognizing the significance of this sector, Safaei stressed the importance of upgrading and expanding the country's maritime fleet to meet the growing demands of international trade.

To achieve this objective, the Ports and Maritime Organization has formulated strategies to attract both domestic and foreign investments. Safaei noted that the organization has successfully secured 110 trillion rials (approximately USD262 million) in private sector investments thus far. Moreover, he mentioned that additional substantial investments are being made by the private sector in the country's ports, further bolstering their capabilities.

Safaei believes that the collaboration between private sector investments and the Ports and Maritime Organization's own investment initiatives can create favorable conditions for the ports. This synergy will not only support the modernization of the fleet but also enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Iran's maritime transportation sector.

By attracting investments and implementing strategic plans, the Ports and Maritime Organization aims to address the evolving needs of Iran's trade landscape and position the country as a significant player in the international maritime industry. The development of a robust marine transportation fleet will contribute to the growth of Iran's economy and enable the efficient movement of goods across global markets.

With a dedicated focus on the modernization and expansion of maritime infrastructure, Iran is poised to strengthen its position as a vital trade hub in the region. The ongoing efforts by the Ports and Maritime Organization underscore the country's commitment to enhancing its maritime capabilities, fostering trade partnerships, and leveraging its strategic geographical location to drive economic growth.
