US urges China to ensure rivalry does not turn into conflict

(MENAFN) China denied a demand by the United States for an assembly of the defense heads of both nations on the sidelines of a yearly safety meeting in Singapore.

“Overnight, the PRC informed the US that they have declined our invitation for Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin to meet with Minister of National Defense Li Shangfu in Singapore this week,” Pentagon representative Patrick Ryder informed the media, talking about the Nation`s Republic of China, China’s certified name.

Ryder stressed the necessity of preserving open channels of communication among the armies of both nations to guarantee that rivalry does not turn into war.

He added, "The PRC’s concerning unwillingness to engage in meaningful military-to-military discussions will not diminish DoD’s (the Department of Defense’s) commitment to seeking open lines of communication with the People’s Liberation Army at multiple levels as part of responsibly managing the relationship."
