Jordan Explores Cooperation With ESCWA In Mining

Amman, May 26 (Petra) -- Jordan's Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority (EMRC) and ESCWA discussed ways to enhance cooperation and proposed projects to exchange experiences and raise capacities, including technical and regulatory aspects and environmental and societal governance.
Deputy Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the EMRC, Imad Najdawi, discussed in a meeting with ESCWA officials the "importance" of the authority's role in regulating the electricity sector, renewable energy, oil derivatives, nuclear and radiological work and natural resources.
According to a statement issued by the EMRC, Najdawi presented the work of the authority and the oversight role it exercises in the sector.
Wafaa Bakhit, Commissioner of the Geological Commission, praised the cooperation between the Commission and ESCWA in natural resources and discussed the "importance" of the mining sector in the economies of countries, which calls for looking at the energy sector as an "added value" capable of achieving economic growth and providing job opportunities.
Radia Sidawi, the head of the Energy Sector at ESCWA, praised the UN organisation's cooperation with Jordan and presented a summary of the most "prominent" projects proposed for implementation that focus on technical support and training and capacity building support and sustainable development policies.
Sidawi affirmed ESCWA's keenness to support Jordan and explore prospects for its development.
