(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Former Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Janaka Ratnayake says he will contest for the post of President at the next Presidential Election.
He expressed these views minutes after Parliament approved a motion to sack him.
Ratnayake said that he had removed all his personal belongings from his office just before the vote in Parliament.
The former PUCSL Chairman said that his defeat in Parliament was a defeat to the entire Sri Lankan pubic.
He said that he will now work for the people and has the support of a wide section of society.
The proposal to remove Ratnayake as the PUCSL Chairman was passed in Parliament with a majority of 43 votes.
During the vote 123 MPs voted for and 77 voted against the motion. (Colombo Gazette)
