(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Britain on Thursday announced that it will start sending long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, which will allow Ukrainian forces to target Russian troops behind the front lines. Ukraine had been asking allies for long-range missiles for months, however, support provided by Britain and other NATO member states was limited to shorter-range weapons.
Britain's Defense Minister Ben Wallace told parliament that Russia must recognize that its actions alone have led to the delivery of such systems to Ukrainian forces.
Ben Wallace reiterated that he received assurance from Ukraine that 'Storm Shadow' missiles will be used within the territory; they will not hit targets inside Russia.
It is believed that Ukrainian forces are preparing for offensive attacks against Russian troops in Ukraine after nearly six months.
The Shadow Storm missiles have a range of 250 km which can destroy difficult targets such as underground bunkers.
The UK is the second largest supplier of weapons to Ukraine after the United States, which has provided arms worth $2.9 million since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In response to Britain's long-range missile supply to Ukraine, Kremlin earlier said that it would require“an adequate response from our military”.
Russia has launched a flurry of long-range missile strikes against Ukraine in the recent past, aimed at degrading Key's ability to fight, and it does not target civilians.
The escalations in the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters a new stage as Ukraine receives long-range missile from the US and the UK to fight Russian troops, and there seems no sign of peace or political settlement in the near future.
