Doha, Qatar: The Qatar national team has qualified for the FIFAe Nations Cup 2023 (FeNC) Finals after defeating the Egyptian and Palestinian teams in the playoffs stage.

Qatar took part in the Middle East and Africa region's play-ins stage, then participated in the playoffs qualifications where they defeated Egypt 3-0 and Palestine 1-0 to secure their spot in the finals in July.

The Qatari eSports Committee, under the auspices of the Qatar Football Association, is headed by Khalifa Al Haroon, the President of the eSports Committee at the Qatar Football Association.

Commenting on this achievement, Al Haroon told The Peninsula that "this remarkable achievement is a testament to the Qatar Football Association's dedication to fostering Qatari talent in the electronic gaming industry. It exemplifies Qatar's commitment to keeping pace with global advancements in this digital realm."

Concerning the selection process for players to represent the Qatari national team, the eSports Committee president said that "players can register and create their profiles on the [FIFA.GG] website. The website annually ranks players from each country, and the top three Qatari players will be selected to represent the national team."

Al Haroon emphasized that“plans are underway to establish an annual championship within Qatar, serving as a platform to select the players who will be selected to join the national team.”

Qatar lost to both Morocco and South Africa in a top-three decider held on Sunday, coming third in the playoffs.

The participating teams in the FIFAe Nations Series 2023 were split into five different zones for qualification.

The teams from each zone are grouped into two group stages to take part in the play-ins stage.

Top nations from this stage will qualify for the playoffs, the final stage before the e-nations Cup.

23 nations, in addition to the host country, will qualify for the FIFAe Nations finals.

The French team was crowned as the first champion in 2019, while the Brazilian team held the title in the last edition in Denmark 2022.

FeNC tournament features the participation of 24 teams divided into four groups, with 16 teams qualifying for the knockout stage, eventually leading to two teams qualifying for the final.

Concerning the in-game squad selection for each national team, FIFA holds a meeting among the participating countries to choose the players through the ultimate team mode.

Each national team adds a player to their squad list alternately to complete it.

Each national team consists of two players and one substitute.

Matches are contested in a 2v2 format, with two games played between each pair of national teams to determine the aggregate goals scored, ultimately leading to the declaration of the final result.

In preparation for the finals, the Qatari national team will play some online friendly games.

The team will also face the Bahraini team on Thursday, and the winner will qualify to participate in the West Asia Championship.
