Italy to hold emergency meeting to deal with increasing prices

(MENAFN) Costs of pasta in Italy has been increasing in the last two months, pushing the administration to host an emergency gathering during this week to reach a decision on whether a price limit or other form of intervention is essential.

Depending on the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT), the retail cost of pasta increased 17.5 percent in March, and 16.5 percent in April in comparison to the same time span in 2022, which was twice as much the national inflation of 8.8 percent. This created worries over possible market conjecture, as the raise came along with a dip in the price of wheat.

After the emergency conference, which was hosted on Thursday and involved representatives, producers, distributers, as well as consumer rights group, an administration led by Industry Minister Adolfo Urso declared that in the meantime, it is going to abstain from overriding in the matter, as the commission trusts that the market is going to move back on the right path in the near future.
