China Accuses US of Targeting Chinese Tech Sector in Technological Standoff

(MENAFN) During a recent press conference, Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made strong claims that the United States is actively engaging in an assault on Chinese companies and scientists as part of its larger agenda to impede the technological progress of other nations. Wang specifically highlighted the establishment of the Disruptive Technology Strike Force by the United States Justice Department in February, stating that it was created with the intention to exploit export control regulations for ulterior motives.

Wang further asserted that the United States has adopted a strategy of politicizing, instrumentalizing, and weaponizing technological issues in an effort to hinder the advancements of other countries. He called upon the United States to abandon its outdated Cold War mentality and cease its misuse of judicial power to target Chinese researchers. Wang emphasized China's unwavering commitment to protecting the lawful rights and interests of its citizens.

These remarks from Wang followed the recent announcement by the United States Justice Department regarding the arrest of two former software engineers, whose identities were not disclosed, on charges of stealing proprietary information from American tech companies with the intention of selling it to Chinese competitors. Notably, one of the engineers involved is reported to be a Chinese citizen.
