Amman, March 30 (Petra) - Over 1.14 million asylum applications were lodged with the German authorities in 2023 as the total number of refugees and immigrants in the country is over 3 million since it started streamlining measures in 2015.
According to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA), the German Federal Statistics Office reported that the increase in asylum applications is the largest since 2007, attributed to the 1.01 million Ukrainian refugees.
Ukrainian refugees topped the lists of asylum data before Syrian refugees, who came in second with 674,000 people. Afghans came in third with 286,000, Iraqis with 211,000, Turks with 101,000 and Russians with 69,000.
