PMO reports 207M tons of commodities imported, exported from Iranian ports


(MENAFN) Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has reported that over 207 million tons of commodities were loaded and unloaded in the country's ports during the past Iranian calendar year 1401 which ended on March 20th. The head of the PMO, Ali-Akbar Safaei, stated that the major development and infrastructure projects defined for the year 1401 were implemented, which affected the national economy and the livelihood of the coastal people.

The PMO launched and implemented 120 large investment projects in the coasts and ports of the country, with the participation of private and non-governmental sectors. Some of the most significant measures taken by the PMO in 1401 include the inauguration of the second part of the third phase of the Shahid Rajaiee container port development project, which has the ability to berth giant container ships with up to 18,400 TEUs capacity. Additionally, they have started building ro-ro and multi-purpose ships to operate in the Caspian Sea, significantly increased the number of the country's naval fleet, trained seafarers, and constructed the new and multi-purpose Khamir port and the reconstruction of Arvand-Kenar port.

The PMO also facilitated logistics activities and created an economic advantage for private sector investment in Imam Khomeini port, developed and equipped the infrastructure of Chabahar port, facilitated and improved the safety of sea travel, and provided food security and distribution of basic goods. Moreover, they have had a positive and effective presence in the international sphere and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The head of the Ports and Maritime Organization emphasized that they will follow up on the strategies and executive policies of port and maritime development, equipping and providing infrastructure in the current year. This shows that the PMO is committed to improving and expanding the country's maritime industry and promoting economic growth through sustainable infrastructure development.
