(MENAFN) An Amazon delivery driver has become a viral sensation for his exceptional delivery skills, as shown in a video posted on TikTok. In the video, the driver pulls up to a cul-de-sac swarmed by police vehicles and walks through armed officers to deliver a package. The video, which was posted on March 18, shows the Amazon worker walking calmly up to the driveway where a standoff is taking place, toting a small box. As soon as the officers see him, they tell him to stop and take the package off his hands, which he does before walking back to his car – after taking a quick picture of the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the standoff are unclear, but more than half a dozen Raleigh, North Carolina, police cars were visible at the scene when the drop-off was made. The video has amassed more than 7 million views, with many viewers praising the delivery driver's dedication to his job.
Humorous responses to the video flooded social media, with one person jokingly saying, "Amazon Delivery Person: listen, I got a job to do and it doesn't matter what y'all doing. This package will be delivered today." Another person commented, "When Amazon says guaranteed delivery date, they really mean it."
However, some commenters pointed out the company's treatment of its delivery drivers. Someone claiming to be an Amazon delivery driver wrote in the comments that the person in the video didn't have a choice but to deliver the package, saying, "it was either deliver the package or get fired." Another commenter who claims to have been a previous Amazon driver added, "if you didn't deliver all your packages, you'd get in trouble."
The company's treatment of its drivers has long been under scrutiny, with accusations of stealing drivers' tips in a "deceptive, illegal scheme that tricked consumers into thinking they were increasing drivers' compensation when Amazon was actually diverting tips to reduce its own labor costs and increase profits." In 2021, the FTC said that the e-commerce giant had stolen nearly $62 million in tips. Then-Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine filed a lawsuit against Amazon for this practice, stating that "Amazon, one of the world's wealthiest companies, certainly does not need to take tips that belong to workers. Amazon can and should do better."
Despite the controversy surrounding Amazon's treatment of its drivers, the delivery driver in the viral video has become a symbol of dedication and commitment to the job. His willingness to deliver a package during a police standoff has captured the attention of millions and sparked conversation about the important role that delivery drivers play in our society.
