Russian Foreign Minister criticizes US for violating diplomatic norms, pursuing hegemony

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently criticized the United States for what he described as a clear violation of diplomatic and ethical norms. In an interview with TV channel Rossiya-24, Lavrov claimed that the United States had gone beyond all limits in its quest for global hegemony. He went on to claim that Russia's 13-month-long war on Ukraine had been framed by the United States as an attempt to impose American hegemony.

Lavrov also spoke of China's unique response to United States diplomatic pressure, saying that it reflects the country's long and rich history as a great civilization. He praised China for its ability to maintain its dignity in the face of diplomatic challenges and for its deep analysis of the current global situation. According to Lavrov, China's response is guided by a desire to avoid hasty moves and to pursue a peaceful settlement of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

These comments from Lavrov come just four days after Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral ties and Beijing's proposals for a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine war. However, the United States has rejected China's proposal and maintained that China cannot be an impartial mediator in the conflict. Lavrov's remarks suggest that Russia and China are united in their opposition to US hegemony and are actively seeking ways to counter American influence in the world.
