(MENAFN) United States President Joe Biden has expressed his belief that the global community is excessively focused on the relationship between China and Russia, stating that Western countries have been successful in expanding their alliances. Biden's comments came in response to a question about China's recent efforts to deepen economic ties with Russia, following Chinese President Xi Jinping's three-day visit to the country.
During a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Biden noted that since taking office, he has met with 80% of the world's leaders and that the Western countries have "significantly expanded our alliances." He further added that he has not seen similar efforts being made by China, Russia, or any other country in the world.
Biden highlighted the strength of NATO and emphasized the unity of the G7, the Quad (a security agreement between Australia, India, Japan, and the US), ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Japan, and Korea. He claimed that the United States is taking the lead in expanding these alliances, while the opposition is not.
The United States President's comments come at a time when tensions between China and the US are high, particularly over issues such as trade, technology, and human rights. Biden has repeatedly emphasized the importance of working with allies to counter China's growing influence and to promote democracy and human rights around the world.
