Doha: The Committee of Presidents and Directors of Universities and Institutions of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the GCC decided, in its 25th meeting in January, to approve the request of the College of Law at Qatar University (QU) to establish a secretariat for the committee of colleges of law in universities and institutions of higher education in the GCC and to host it.

This decision was made in implementation of the principles of the basic platform of the GCC, which are based on“coordination, integration and interdependence among member states in all fields” including educational affairs.

The College of Law Secretariat Committee is considered one of the joint work committees in higher education, which seeks to“implement joint projects with tangible and positive effects on the work of higher education institutions and the process of integration and cooperation between them.”

The College of Law Committee, like other college committees of various specialisations amounting to about 17 committees, is responsible for promoting means of mutual cooperation between colleges in the GCC countries, including organising conferences, workshops and scientific forums, exchanging experiences between faculty members and supporting cross training between students and other scientific activities that would develop the legal work, including experiential legal education curricula, which include law clinics, practical laboratories, moot courts and externship.

Dr. Talal Abdullah Al Emadi, Dean of the College of Law at QU, and Secretary of the Secretariat of the Committee of Colleges of Law in the GCC, welcomed the mutual work between the various colleges of law in the GCC and expressed his aspiration to coordinate a near meeting that brings the colleges together to discuss and study a joint action plan based on the three major pillars known in legal education: legal knowledge, legal skills, and legal values.
