John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, said on Wednesday that the work was almost completed and that the administration was preparing the release for next month.
“We expect to be able to share those takeaways with the public by mid-April,” Kirby said. He declared that the administration would provide the congressional oversight committees access to the report's classified sections.
The US's hasty withdrawal of troops is considered one of the main factors for the collapse of the republic government of Afghanistan.
The agreement was signed on February 2020 between the US and the Taliban group in Doha, Qatar. The agreement ignored the then-Afghan government, which caused the collapse of the Afghan National Security Forces.
The agreement had several elements, including the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban's commitment to counter-terrorism, which has not allowed anyone to attack the US or its allies from the country, and Afghan intra-dialogue.
However, following the agreement, there was a sharp increase in attacks on Afghan security personnel, which resulted in thousands of fatalities. On August 30, 2021, the US completed its full pullout, and the Taliban forcibly took over the country.
