Azerbaijan condemns Armenian provocations in Karabakh region amidst ongoing tensions

(MENAFN) On Monday, Azerbaijan condemned the firing of Armenian shots on its military positions in the Zangilan region of Karabakh, and expressed its displeasure at the increasing aggression and military provocations by Armenia. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling on Yerevan to halt its actions that escalate tensions in the region, and to abandon its aggressive rhetoric towards Azerbaijan.

The statement also urged Armenia to cease the manipulation of the presence of the European Union civilian monitoring mission in its territories. Azerbaijan held the political and military leadership of Armenia responsible for undermining the peace-building measures taken by Azerbaijan in the region.

An agreement brokered by Russia, which went into effect in 2020, ended the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, resulting in the latter having to relinquish territories it had occupied for almost three decades. Since then, the two neighboring countries have been engaged in a process to normalize their ties. However, tensions have been on the rise in recent weeks, prompting Azerbaijan to condemn Armenia's provocative actions and call for peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
