Biden to Honor Bruce Springsteen, Other Artists with National Medals of Arts, Humanities

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, President Biden will award the 2021 National Medal of Arts, the highest award for advancing the arts in America, to a dozen individuals and groups during a White House ceremony. Among the recipients is Bruce Springsteen, the legendary musician and songwriter who has already received numerous accolades, including a Presidential Medal of Freedom and a Kennedy Center Honor. Springsteen has sold around 140 million albums worldwide and has won multiple Grammys, Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and a special Tony Award.

In addition to Springsteen, other honorees of the arts medals include actress and comedian Mindy Kaling and singer Gladys Knight. First lady Jill Biden will also participate in the ceremony. The arts medals are the first of their kind to be awarded by President Biden, who surprised Sir Elton John with a National Humanities Medal during a White House musical event last September.

At the same event, President Biden will also award the 2021 National Humanities Medals, which honor individuals or groups for their work that deepens understanding of the humanities. Recipients of the humanities medals include authors Amy Tan, Colson Whitehead, and Ann Patchett.

The ceremony is a celebration of artists and their contributions to American culture, particularly during a time when the arts and humanities have been challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Medals of Arts and Humanities recognize the power of the arts and humanities to inspire, educate, and unite people across the country.

In honoring Bruce Springsteen and the other recipients with these prestigious awards, President Biden is recognizing the vital role that artists and humanists play in American society. This ceremony is a testament to the value that the administration places on the arts and humanities and their ability to enrich the lives of all Americans.
