Army Launches Investigation After Golden Knights Parachutist Dies in Training Jump

(MENAFN) The U.S. Army is investigating the death of a member of its Golden Knights parachute team, Sgt. 1st Class Michael Ty Kettenhofen, who died from injuries sustained during a training jump. Sgt. Kettenhofen had joined the Golden Knights in 2020 and had completed over 1,000 jumps with the Army prior to the incident. He jumped on Monday but had a "hard landing" and passed away from his injuries the following day. The Army has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the accident.

Sgt. Kettenhofen was a highly respected member of the Golden Knights team, and his loss has been deeply felt by his colleagues and friends. Lt. Col. Andy Moffit, Golden Knights Parachute Team commander, expressed his sadness at the news and praised Kettenhofen for his accomplishments as a senior non-commissioned officer and demonstration parachutist. He described Kettenhofen as loved, admired, and respected by all who knew him, and said that he will be honored and remembered as a Golden Knight, Soldier, and friend.

The Golden Knights parachute team is known for its sophisticated and complex parachute training and travels around the world to perform demonstrations. The team has earned over 3,800 medals in competition and has set 348 world records in the process. In early March, CBS News Miami aired a segment featuring Kettenhofen and the Golden Knights, which went viral after the parachute team was reported as unidentified flying objects.

The death of Sgt. Kettenhofen is a tragic loss for the Golden Knights team and the U.S. Army as a whole. The Army's investigation into the incident will hopefully shed light on the cause of the accident and help prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. As the Golden Knights and the Army grieve the loss of one of their own, they will continue to honor Sgt. Kettenhofen's legacy as a skilled parachutist and dedicated member of the team.
