The Brazilian government has already sent out 90 water purifiers and 7 tonnes of dehydrated food to Syria. The water purifiers, which include a voltaic kit to ensure energy autonomy, have the capacity to produce over 500,000 liters of water a day, thus assisting more than 25,000 people. The dehydrated foods are halal-certified risottos and soups amounting to 280,000 meals.

Solla said the regions of Northern Syria and the Lebanese border had been suffering from a cholera outbreak even before the earthquake, which has just made the situation even more critical, thus increasing the volume of purifier donations to help on this front.

The donations from the government are heading to Lebanon in commercial flights and are expected to arrive by Sunday (12), where they will be collected by the Lebanese Red Cross and sent by land to Syria, with the logistic support from a local firm and in coordination with the Embassies of Brazil in Beirut and Damascus. The Brazilian humanitarian donation will be delivered to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, which will distribute them across the country.

Solla said that a medicine shipment from the Ministry of Health is awaiting confirmation to be sent, and the ABC received a request for donations to Syria in the electric sector.
