Greens, FDP clash over future of Germany's energy policy

(MENAFN) There is a disagreement between the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) over the direction of Germany's energy policy. The FDP is opposing a proposed plan by the Greens to prohibit new gas and oil heating systems from 2024. Christian Durr, the FDP parliamentary group leader in the Bundestag, stated that the party does not have a proposal to ban oil and gas heaters and that the proposed ban could lead to increased construction and rental costs in Germany.

Michael Kruse, the energy policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group in the Bundestag, criticized the plan, calling it ecologically and economically unsound. The Greens, however, are standing by their proposal and believe that energy upgrades are crucial for a freer and more robust future. Christina-Johanne Schroder, the Green Party's construction and housing policy spokeswoman, defended the plan by stating that every energy improvement contributes to greater freedom and resilience of buildings.

The disagreement between the Greens and the FDP highlights the divergent opinions on how best to address Germany's energy needs while balancing ecological and economic concerns.
