Doha: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced to provide dozens of new Qatari Imams and Muezzins from the recruits assigned to the National Service Academy of Miqdam Camp to lead the worshipers in all prayers including Tarawih and Tahajjud during the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

This is after they participated and qualified through a number of Sharia courses organised by the Department of Da'wah and Religious Guidance over a period of six months in jurisprudence, in the lecture hall of the National Service Camp.

These courses began on September 25, 2022, and the last course is scheduled to conclude on March 9, 2023.

The Mosques Management Department said the programme of qualifying courses in Sharia sciences was presented by a group of teachers and preachers specialized in this field.

Placement tests will be conducted for trained Imams and Muezzins participating in the courses to ensure their understanding of the material taught.

This is done by holding a written test that must be passed successfully, in addition to an oral test in memorising three parts of the Holy Qur'an. And then nominate those who pass it successfully to work as Imam and Muezzin in mosques during the holy month.

Benefiting from this group of citizens is the first fruit of the community cooperation and partnership agreement signed by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs on August 2, 2022, with the Ministry of Defense, to attract recruits assigned to the National Service Academy at Miqdam Camp to join as Imam, Muezzin and orators.

This is embodying the visions and goals of the wise leadership in supplying the country's mosques with Qatari preachers and Imams to lead the worshipers and call for prayer.

They are the most capable of understanding the issues of society and knowing its needs and aspirations, in addition to the fact that citizens are the link with society.

The signing of the agreement came within the framework of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs' keenness to strengthen community partnership with state institutions, and to achieve the ministry's strategy to attract and qualify Qatari Imams and Muezzins to work in mosques.
