(MENAFN) As global temperatures continue to rise, climate change is a pressing issue that poses a significant threat to the Middle East and the Gulf region. With floods, high temperatures, and rising sea levels, the region faces a substantial challenge that requires immediate attention. The National Human Rights Committee is taking a step in the right direction by organizing the upcoming International conference on Climate Change and Human Rights to discuss and present recommendations to policymakers on how to mitigate and adapt to the changing environment while protecting human rights.
The conference, scheduled to be held in Doha on February 21-22, will bring together experts and scientists to deliberate on the best solutions to avoid the adverse effects of climate change. The event will serve as a platform to discuss the most pressing issues, the latest developments in the field, and potential solutions to tackle the climate crisis.
The Middle East region is already the world's most water-stressed, with a lack of rainfall, intense heat waves, and worsening drought threatening to displace millions of people. Furthermore, according to the UN refugee agency (UNHCR), climate change has a disproportionately significant impact on the most vulnerable countries, resulting in roughly 90 percent of refugees originating from the least ready countries to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Therefore, it is vital to find sustainable and effective solutions to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change, especially in vulnerable regions like the Middle East and the Gulf. The upcoming International Conference on Climate Change and Human Rights provides a valuable opportunity for policymakers to engage with experts, researchers, and scientists to discuss the challenges and identify solutions to tackle the crisis.
In conclusion, climate change is a global problem that requires a collective effort to mitigate its impacts. The upcoming conference in Doha is a significant step towards addressing the challenges posed by climate change and will hopefully result in tangible solutions that protect human rights and ensure a sustainable future for all.
