The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan on Sunday announced that the second round of Mid-Level Defense Dialogue between Pakistan and the United States will commence on Monday in Washington.

The Second round of the Pakistan-US Defense Dialogue is scheduled from 13-16 February 2023 in Washington DC, aimed at reviewing security and defense mechanisms between Islamabad and Washington. The first round of the Dialogue was held in Pakistan in January 2021.

Pakistan's inter-agency delegation, led by the Chief of General Staff, will comprise senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joint Staff Headquarters, and three Services Headquarters. The US multi-agency team will be represented by the Office of Undersecretary of Defense.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United States on Sunday in a press conference said that a similar team of a delegation headed by the Office of Undersecretary of Defense will participate in this round of dialogue.

The resumption of the defense dialogue between the U.S. and Pakistan has commenced after two years, as Pakistan experiences a sharp increase in terrorism and militancy in recent months.

Since the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) formally ended its unilateral ceasefire with the Pakistani government in November, the militant group has intensified its brutal attacks across Pakistan targeting army personnel, police officers, Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) officials, and ordinary people.

The Pakistani government has relatedly accused the Afghan Taliban, the current rulers of Afghanistan of giving sanctuaries to TTP fighters and other militant groups on Afghan soil. Whereas, Afghan officials deny such accusations and emphasize that the Taliban group will uphold its promises and not allow any terror group to use Afghanistan territory to pose security threats against other countries.
