(MENAFN) In a demo film that was made available days before a prominent launch event in Paris on Wednesday, Google's Bard chatbot made a factual error. The AI bot is being positioned as a rival to the Microsoft-backed ChatGPT, a hugely popular AI with its own set of issues, even though it is still in development.
The question "what new findings from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) can I tell my 9-year-old about" is posed to Bard in a promotional film that Google unveiled on Monday. One of the responses given by the AI claims that the telescope "captured the very first photographs of a planet outside of our own solar system."
That response was incorrect, as astronomer Grant Tremblay pointed out on Twitter. He commented that while "spookily stunning," AI chatbots are "frequently very confidently incorrect," noting that the first such image was captured by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) of the European Southern Observatory in 2004.
