Officials in UK who oversaw funding of radical Muslim organizations have to be fired

(MENAFN) According to a counterterrorism specialist quoted in The Times newspaper, employees of the UK Prevent program who oversaw the public funding of Muslim extremist organisations need to be fired.

In the lengthy Shawcross study of the government's counter-extremism Prevent program, which is finally being disclosed this week, Prof. Ian Acheson, a key advisor, recommended for a stronger response to Muslim organizations that "undermine societal cohesion."

Prevent is likely to face criticism from the review, headed by William Shawcross, for giving money to controversial organizations while purportedly promoting religious and communal moderation in the UK through its USD48 million fund.

Former prison governor Acheson, who in 2016 presented an assessment on Islamist extremism in UK prisons, attacked Prevent's "mission creep," saying that "'securitizing' expanding numbers of young people for ideas that will not transfer into deeds is a waste of time and valuable resources."
