Türkiye cautions of action if Western embassy continue to be closed

(MENAFN) The Turkish president on Sunday convicted the temporary shutting of Western embassies in Istanbul, cautioning of action if the missions carry on staying close.

"Recently, our Foreign Ministry summoned them and gave them an ultimatum. It said that if they continue such actions, they will pay a heavy price," Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced at a conference with the youth in the nation's western Aydin province.

Erdogan's comments came when Türkiye summoned ambassadors of Western nations, as well as the US, to condemn their move to temporarily close diplomatic missions on the pretext of security intimidations.

"We have a cabinet meeting on Monday, and we will take the necessary decisions regarding this move," the Turkish president made a statement.

The ambassadors of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK were also summoned to the Foreign Ministry, in line with Turkish diplomatic sources, and were informed that such immediate acts do not indicate a related and prudent approach, but serve the "insidious agenda of terrorist groups."
