Second Edition Of Asian Arabic Debating Championship Concludes In Oman

Doha: The Asian Arabic Debating Championship organised by QatarDebate Centre, a member of Qatar Foundation in collaboration with OmanDebate and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, concluded recently.

The championship was held under the patronage of H H Fahr bin Fatik Al Said, and H H Sayyid Firas bin Fatik Al Said, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Debate Centre, and the generous participation of Their Excellencies and officials in the Sultanate of Oman, the active partner in the world of debates with QatarDebate, which is headed by Dr. Hayat Abdullah Marafi, Executive Director of the Centre and her presence at the head of the Centre's delegation in this tournament.

The ceremony, which was presented by the QatarDebate Ambassador, Mohammed Al Lakhn Al Marri, witnessed awarding the winners of the championship for the open category, the Texas A&M University team from Qatar - after defeating the Princess Sumaya University for Technology team - from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan who won second place.

The debate motion for the final round was -“This Council believes that it is time for Asian countries to turn to China instead of the United States of America.”

The final debate was chaired by the Ambassador of the Center from the Sultanate of Oman Salem bin Mutair Al Shamakhi, with the participation of 9 international judges.

In the Arabic for non-native speakers category - University of Islamic Sciences Malaysia team was crowned the winner of the first place - the category of Arabic for non-native speakers - and the second place was the team of the University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim from Indonesia.
