Russian envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov told TASS on Friday that next week in Moscow, the secretaries of the security councils of Central Asian nations, Pakistan, India, and China, will meet to discuss the situation in Afghanistan.

He further explained,“There will be regional participants; the secretaries of the security councils of countries in the region are invited, our Central Asian partners, as well as Pakistan, India and China.”

In August 2021, when the United States and its allies suddenly withdrew their soldiers, the Taliban retook power, ushering in a slew of new security and development challenges.

However, throughout the previous two decades, regional collaboration has been limited. As the United States and its allies shift their focus elsewhere, Afghanistan's neighbours have started to consider how best to respond to these emerging threats and challenges and even intervene collectively to address them.

In addition, since August 2021, the country has been experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe which needs urgent aid to the people who suffer the most during the harsh and freezing winter season in the country.

Therefore, the focus of the discussion will be on Afghanistan's security, socioeconomic and humanitarian situation as well as coordinating efforts to strengthen regional security, as it was the theme for the last Moscow regional consultation platform.

Last year on May 28, 2022, the fourth round of multilateral consultation on Afghanistan between the representatives of neighbouring countries was held in Dushanbe. However, Kabulov has yet to reveal whether any representative from the Taliban-run government will be invited.
