(MENAFN) According to the board head of the union of flowers and plants producers for the province of Khorasan Razavi in northeastern Iran, 22 percent of the nation's exports of flowers and decorative plants come from Mashhad.
As said by Mehdi Samangani, Mashhad is home to 65 percent of Khorasan Razavi's greenhouses since the city has the necessary infrastructure in place and easy access to the market.
Mashhad's neighborhood with Turkmenistan and Central Asian nations has established a good volume for shipping flowers and plants in Mashhad, he stated, also mentioning that “However, Mashhad's capacity for production and export, considering the infrastructure that this city has in the field of flower and ornamental plant production, is much more than our 22 percent share of flower and plant export in the country.”
In line with the director of Mashhad County's agriculture department, 280 greenhouse units are in operation there. 1,400 individuals have found direct job as a result of these greenhouses, while 3,500 people have found indirect employment.
