UK experiences nationwide protest activity strongest since 2011

(MENAFN) Tens of thousands of school teachers, university workers and lecturers, train drivers, as well as civil servants are between the staff walking out as part of Wednesday’s countrywide protest in the UK.

This kind of extended protest activity has not occurred since a last pay conflict 12 years ago when over a million employee invaded the streets.

The National Education Union states that nearly 300,000 teachers through England alone are protesting as they have dealt with a minimum of 23 percent real-term pay reduction in the last 13 years.

Like several others in different areas, teachers are also requesting a raise higher than the climbing double-digit inflation level in the nation.

Whereas a majority of schools are either completely or to a degree shutdown, tourism is also affected with staff setting up picket lines as well as rallies.

Nearly 100,000 civil servants from 124 public sectors have attended the protest as well.
