US shares open Tuesday’s session with mixed figures as Fed gathering starts


(MENAFN) US shares started with mixed figures on Tuesday as the Federal Reserve's key monetary gathering launch.

The Dow Jones industrial average saw a decrease of 40 points, or 0.12 percent, to stand at 33,676 as of 10:12 AM EDT (1512GMT).

The S&P 500, on the other hand, gained 9 points, or 0.24 percent to stand at 4,026.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose by 47 points, or 0.41 percent, to reach 11,441 at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also recognized as the fear index, saw a decline 0.6 percent to reach 19.82, whereas the 10-year US Treasury yield fell by 0.45 percent to 3.535 percent.

The dollar index dropped 0.02 percent to reach 102.30, whereas the euro gained 0.01 percent to USD1.0845 versus the dollar.

Precious metals were in the negative, with gold losing 0.02 percent to reach USD1,922 an ounce and silver losing 0.1 percent to reach USD23.58.

Crude oil costs were 0.7 percent higher with global benchmark Brent crude standing at USD85.05 a barrel and US main West Texas Intermediate crude reaching USD78.47.
