(MENAFN) Turkey is going to welcome 1.4 billion cubic meters of gas from Oman on a yearly basis under a fresh contract that is going to be active for the upcoming 10 years, the nation’s energy and natural resources minister declared on Monday.
The new gas purchase deal with Oman also contains a chance to be prolonged additionally if required, Fatih Donmez asserted in a speech he gave at the opening of the Summit of Century of Turkey in Energy arranged for the initial time in Istanbul.
"At a time when the world, especially Europe, is suffering from gas supply problems, Turkey is taking all steps to become a gas trade center," he stated.
Donmez also announced that Turkey’s third floating liquefied natural gas inventory and regasification unit (FSRU) is estimated to reach in Turkey within a week and that the vessel has taken its first load and began sailing.
He also stated suggesting that: "With the Saros FSRU, we will be adding a new entry point to the Thrace region, where consumption is high. More importantly, we will become a more active player in the regional gas trade, especially in the Balkans, in line with our gas hub target."
