(MENAFN- Hip Hop-24) On Monday, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) condemned US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's visit to Israel, saying that it "consecrates continued support for the occupation."
On Monday, Blinken arrived in Israel on a two-day visit that also includes the Palestinian territories, during which he will meet officials in Tel Aviv and Ramallah.
A spokesman for the Palestinian movement, Abd al-Latif al-Qanou, said in a statement, "Blinken's visit to the occupation dedicates the state of partnership and continuous support for it."
In addition, "this visit represents a cover for the extremist government to pass its criminal policies and aggression against the Palestinian people, their sanctities and their families," according to al-Qanua.
And last December 29, the Israeli Knesset (parliament) granted confidence to a new government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu, which Hebrew, Arab and international media described as "the most right-wing in the history of Israel."
Al-Qanou warned of "the repercussions of the (Israeli) government's continued escalation of its aggression against the land, the people, and the sanctities."
Blinken begins his visit to Tel Aviv with a meeting with Netanyahu, followed by Foreign Minister Eli Cohen and then President Isaac Herzog.
Israel is Blinken's second stop on a tour that began in Egypt on Sunday and ends in the Palestinian territories on Tuesday.
Blinken is the third high-ranking US official to visit the region since the formation of the Netanyahu government, preceded by US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and CIA Director William Burns.
The Palestinian territories have been witnessing escalating tension for some time, which intensified after the killing of 7 Israelis by a Palestinian youth in occupied Jerusalem on Friday, the day after 9 Palestinians were killed by Israeli army bullets in the Jenin camp in the northern West Bank.
