Middle East prepares to experience massive surges in electricity demand


(MENAFN) Electricity request is prepared for a massive surge in the Middle East as main rebuilding operations occure through the area, as said by Majeed Al-Moneef, chairman of the Saudi Association of Energy Economics.

In a meeting with MEED, Al-Moneef stated that the growth of industrial actions might fuel the need for higher electricity output as well.

“There will be growing demand for electricity in many countries including in Iraq, Syria and Libya, where major reconstruction efforts are expected to take place, along with expanding industrial activities in other jurisdictions,” according to Al-Moneef.

The SAEE chairman additionally pointed out that electricity production in the area need to be increased, and need to also make sure that power is being utilized in an effective manner.

Al-Moneef, who is also chairman of the International Advisory Committee of Riyadh-located King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center, also said that Saudi Arabia is on a way to a maintainable future, as the nation is surging its renewable energy output volume.

He went further on that the nation is going to make solar and wind sources amount to 50 percent of the overall electricity output volume within the end of this decade.

He continued: “We are committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, we will be increasing our renewable energy capacity dramatically to meet that objective. We will also tap carbon capture technologies to support and increase the capacity of our oil- or gas-fired power stations.”
