(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MADRID, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Ambassador to Spain Khalifa Al-Kharafi said Wednesday that the foreign policy of his country always aims to build bridges of understanding, and promote peace and stability in its region and beyond.
'The humanitarian dimension and support to international peace efforts are among the basic features of Kuwait's balanced foreign policy,' he told KUNA on the fringes of an annual reception hosted by King Felipe VI for the diplomatic corps in Spain.
Dealing with the crisis in Ukraine, Ambassador Al-Kharafi said the State of Kuwait has repeatedly called for a peaceful solution based on commitment to the international law and the UN Charter, and respect for the sovereignty of states.
'The State of Kuwait dispatched relief aid for the Ukrainian people to alleviate their suffering from the conflict,' he pointed out.
On the relations with Spain, he said they kept strengthening in all areas and Kuwait Embassy in Madrid always works to deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation.
King Felipe VI delivered a speech to the reception where he highlighted Spain's support to Ukraine and the need of all allies standing united in the face of 'the Russian aggression.'
From the very beginning of the crisis, Spain showed support to Ukraine on the bilateral and multilateral levels through provision of military and humanitarian assistance in a bid to counter 'the indiscriminate Russian attacks on the civilian infrastructure in Ukraine,' he noted.
The response of Spain, the European Union and the international community was crucial in repelling 'the Russian onslaught,' King Felipe VI said, reiterating condemnation of the flagrant aggression on Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Recalling the NATO Madrid Summit, held on June 29-30, 2022, he said it culminated in the adoption of the Alliance's new 'Strategic Concept' for collective defense in the coming decade.
The Concept singles out the Russian Federation as 'the most significant and direct threat to Allies' security,' he said, adding that the Allies agreed to continue support to Kyiv in the long run whatever it takes to counter 'the Russian aggression.'
The reception, hosted at the Royal Palace in Madrid, gathered, besides the ambassadors to Spain, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Foreign Minister Josأ© Manuel Albares Bueno as well as several other dignitaries. (end)
