(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- US President Joe Biden announced Wednesday plans to send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
'Today I'm announcing that the United States will be sending 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine,' Biden said at the White House.
The Abrams tanks are the most capable tanks in the world, he added.
'They're also extremely complex to operate and maintain, so we're also giving Ukraine the parts and equipment necessary to effectively sustain these tanks on the battlefield,' the US leader said.
He pointed out that the US will train the Ukrainian troops on these issues of sustainment, logistics, and maintenance as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky thanked US President Joe Biden for his decision to send Abrams tanks to his war-torn country.
'It's an important step on the path to victory,' Zelensky added. (end)
