US shares shortly stopped due to technical problem

(MENAFN) Trading of some US shares was briefly stopped because of a technical problem on Tuesday, as said by the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Briefly after the starting bell at 9.30 a.m. EDT (1430GMT), share exchange for dozens of firms was shortly stopped, including communications giants AT&T and Verizon, economic services firms Morgan Stanley as well as Wells Fargo, and movie theater chain AMC Entertainment.

While exchanging continued for some firms as early as 9.40 a.m. EDT, all systems were functional as of 9.48 a.m. EDT, the NYSE mentioned in an announcement.

"The exchange continues to investigate issues with today's opening auction. In a subset of symbols, opening auctions did not occur. The exchange is working to clarify the list of symbols," it continued.

The Dow Jones was 7 points higher, or 0.02 percent, to reach 33,636 at 11.53 AM EDT, however, the S&P 500 was 5 points lower, or 0.13 percent to reach 4,014 at the time.
