Jordanian King Underscores Maintaining Calm In Palestinian Lands

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Jordan's King Abdullah II underscored Tuesday necessity of maintaining calm and ceasing all acts of violence in occupied Palestinian lands, to pave the way for the peace process.
The royal Jordanian diwan, in a statement, said this came during King Abdullah's meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the capital of Amman, according to Petra news agency.
King Abdullah stressed the importance of respecting the historical and legal status quo in Al-Aqsa Mosque, calling for an end to any measures undermining peace prospects.
He further reaffirmed Jordan's unwavering position in support of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The two also discussed bilateral ties and the need for Palestinian people to benefit from economic and regional projects. (end)
