OIC Chief Condemns Burning Of Holy Quran Copy In Sweden


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Jan 21 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha condemned in the strongest terms the burning of a Holy Quran copy by far-right activists in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday afternoon.
'This the vile provocative act was permitted by the Swedish authorities. It has been committed repeatedly by far right extremists, he said in a press release.
The Secretary General warned that such acts targeting Muslims and insulting their sacred values, serve as further examples of 'the alarming level reached by Islamophobia, hate, intolerance and xenophobia.'
He urged the Swedish authorities to take necessary measures against the perpetrators of this hate crime.
He reiterated the calls for more international efforts to prevent recurrence of such acts and for solidarity to fight Islamophobia. (end)
