(MENAFN- UkrinForm) In Odesa region, Ukraine's counterintelligence operatives with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) exposed an official employed by a local enterprises, who was preparing a missile attack on energy facilities and the river port of Izmail. That's according to the sbu press service.
The inquiry established that the man had been recruited by Russian intelligence after the full-scale invasion. On the instructions of his handlers, he had been gathering sensitive information on the deployment of defense units and critical infrastructure facilities in Izmail.
First of all, the enemy asset was focused on the locations of power stations and other urban energy facilities. The perpetrator also scouted the locations of Ukrainian checkpoints. Through covert surveillance, he studied their fortification peculiarities, available weapons, and the number of personnel. In addition, the man handed the Russians information about the specifics of defense networks and local police operations.
According to the SBU, the intelligence was needed by Russian invaders to prepare a series of targeted missile strikes on various targets. Law enforcers detained the man after enough evidence was collected.
The culprit was charged with high treason committed under martial law.
