AMMAN, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Al-Hejaz train launched by the Ottomans in 1908 to transport pilgrims from Damascus to Medina via Jordanian territories has become a tourist landmark.
Tourists enjoy riding for leisure some of the steam-powered eight carriages, among 40 that still operate around the world.
It was a major accomplishment when the train was launched for it shortened the trip duration to the sacred sites in Saudi Arabia from three months to only 54 hours via the 1,302-km-long railway. (end)
