Public transportation arrangement to serve the Old Doha Port and neighbouring areas is at an advanced stage of discussions, Old Doha Port Executive Director, Engr Mohammed Abdulla Al Mulla told The Peninsula.

“Now, we are in advanced discussion with all involved parties to make sure we do have a collaborative approach, not only limited to Doha Port but a strategic approach to serve the neighbouring entities also – like the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) on one side and the National Museum of Qatar on the other.”

Engr Al Mulla continued:“We are working together with our colleagues and these entities to make sure we put a plan in place that will serve not only Doha Port but also other adjacent developments.”

It can be recalled that during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, from November to December, the public and visiting guests could reach the Old Doha Port in a dedicated bus that goes directly to the area, with stops at Souq Waqif, Corniche, Flag Plaza, Box Park, and Cruise Terminal.

Now, the public can reach the area in a private vehicle or by taxi. Walking is also an option, but it will take half an hour to reach the destination from Flag Plaza.

Although Engr. Al Mulla didn't reveal when the new development will be implemented, the provision of public transport is expected to be operational in the coming months.

The Executive Director explained that the planned public transport route will not only serve the Old Doha Port, but also its adjacent area including a community space, museums, galleries, and a park.

The Old Doha Port has a strategic location where neighbouring communities are a short distance away. This includes the Museum of Islamic Art and its park; the Flag Plaza, a community space located near MIA Park, dedicated to celebrating unity and cultural exchange; Qatar Museums Al Riwaq Gallery; the future Art Mill Museum where the site of the existing Qatar Flour Mills is located and will be moved to a new location; and the National Museum of Qatar.

The Port features the Containers Yard most commonly known as The Box Park; the Wooden Walk side where yachts are docked; Mina District, a vibrant hub with cultural touch; The Green Park which has a vast area of greenery with a walkway, jogging path and chairs for the public; Superyachts berthing; Al Bandar which is part of Mina District, allowing the entry of seawater from the port dock to facilitate the movement of boats and fishermen's boats; The Fish Market; and the Grand Terminal Building which welcomes the big cruise ships.
